“A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places.”

Yuni Buffa is a modern luxury shoe brand for women. Founded by designer Yuni Buffa in 2020, the label is informed by a cross-pollination of global design influences, hailing from Yuni’s love of travel and self-described “nomadic lifestyle”. Born in South Korea, Yuni resided in Seoul, Milan, and Vancouver, before earning her degree from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design where she studied industrial design.

Upon graduating, Yuni was able to apply her unique understanding of form and function to shoe design, a fashion discipline she had longed to pursue. After honing her skills at the influential house of Alexander Wang, Yuni enjoyed design lead roles at Loeffler Randall and Rag & Bone, before establishing her eponymous line.

Yuni Buffa, which débuts this spring, offers a carefully curated line of understated but enduringly elegant flats, pumps, boots, and sandals that are meticulously handcrafted by artisans at an esteemed, family-run atelier in Tuscany, Italy, using locally sourced, superior-grade leathers.

Rather than following the traditional fashion calendar model and the overproduction it can demand, the brand gradually unveils select styles on site throughout the year. To minimize the impact of production, whenever possible but without sacrificing quality, the collection is fashioned from unused end-of-line luxury leathers that may otherwise have been discarded. This allows Yuni to be highly resourceful and only produce smaller and more exclusive quantities.

This mindful, less-is-more approach is also reflected in the brand’s signature aesthetic, which celebrates the beauty of simplicity inspired by 1990s-era minimalism. From the square-toed strappy Castrise sandals to the adjustable Pia ballet flats and the quilted midi-heel Roma pumps, each distinctive and pragmatic style favors clean lines and subtle details that play a specific purpose.

In keeping with the brand’s ethos, Yuni Buffa is a member of 1% for the Planet. As a member organization, 1% of the proceeds from the sale of each pair of shoes will be contributed to organizations that advocate for the fair and ethical treatment of artisans and factory workers around the globe.

Yuni divides her time between New York and Italy.
